Four Arrows Homestead: Planting the First Seed
Our very first blog post
Created by: Brittany Alexis English-Huff
If you’ve found your way here, welcome — truly. Four Arrows Homestead has been a dream growing quietly in the background of my life for years, tucked between garden rows, simmering pots of canned sauce, sticky toddler hands, and the beautiful chaos of raising kids while trying to live just a little more intentionally.
This space is for anyone who’s ever thought: “I want to live simpler… but I also live in the city.” Same. And that’s exactly why Four Arrows Homestead exists.
What We’re Building Here
Homesteading isn’t just acres of land, dairy goats, and a pantry the size of a small bedroom. It’s a mindset — one that says I can do more with what I have. Even if “what I have” is a backyard the size of a welcome mat, a balcony garden, or a kitchen that doubles as a science lab for your kids.
Four Arrows Homestead is where gardening meets motherhood, where canning meets chaos, where semi‑crunchy living meets city convenience. It’s where we learn, grow, fail, try again, and celebrate the tiny victories that make this lifestyle so rewarding.
Why “Four Arrows”?
Because every homestead — big or small — is built with intention. Four arrows represent four pillars of this space:
Grow. Preserve. Raise. Live.
Grow your food. Preserve your harvest. Raise your children with purpose. Live simply, even when life isn’t simple.
What You Can Expect
This blog will be a mix of:
- Real-life gardening wins (and the occasional “why is this plant dying?” moments)
- Canning recipes that actually taste good
- Semi-crunchy living tips that don’t require a trust fund
- Homesteading projects you can do in the city
- Honest motherhood — the messy, the magical, and everything in between
- Seasonal guides, pantry-building strategies, and ways to make your home feel more handmade
And yes… plenty of humor, because if you’re raising kids and tomatoes at the same time, you need it.
Why Start Now?
Because more and more people are craving a life that feels grounded. A life where you know what’s in your food, where your kids learn from dirt instead of screens, where you slow down enough to enjoy the things you make with your own hands.
You don’t need land to homestead. You don’t need perfection to be intentional. You just need a willingness to start — and a community to grow with.
So here we are. Starting together.
Let’s Grow Something Beautiful
Whether you’re here to learn, laugh, or simply feel inspired, I’m glad you’re part of this little corner of the world. Four Arrows Homestead is officially planted… and I can’t wait to see what grows next.
